Saint Vincent Grape
St. Vincent is an orphaned Franco-American hybrid of unknown origin; this is how it is perceived.
some think that it comes from a spontaneous and natural hybridization of Chambourcin (a Franco-American hybrid) and Pinot Noir.
Scott Toedesbusch in Augusta, Missouri, was the first to discover St. Vincent in 1973
Today, St. Vincent's grapes have spread from Missouri to other states such as Iowa and Ohio.
It produces an excellent wine, as an independent varietal, St. Vincent is generally used to produce drier red wines similar to those of Italian Chianti or Rossese, also used in softer wine blends. St. Vincent is not very tannic.
The grapes of Saint Vincent can also be used in rosés and sparkling wines.
Harvested in October, its resistance to winter is moderate to high and only slightly susceptible to rot, phylloxera and other pests. . .
