Amarone Grape Varietals

Amarone della Valpolicella, usually known as Amarone

is an Italian DOCG denomination of typically rich dry red wine made from Corvinone, Rondinella.

Valpolicella is in the province of Verona, within the large Veneto region near lack de Garde

In Italian, the name Amarone literally means "the Great Bitter”

Since 2003 Amarone production regulations allow wine makers to use only Corvina and Rondinella although the traditional blend included also Molinara, but today it is still possible to use Molinara

Typical grapes used in Valpolicella wines include Negrara, Oseleta, Croatina, ecc. Each grape adds something to the unique taste of an Amarone.

But the most important grape in the blend of all Valpolicella wines and Amarone is Corvina which is also used 100% pure in few single grape varietal wines…
