Muscadine

 

Vitis rotundifolia, or muscadinia rotundifolia, is a grapevine species native to the southeastern United States that grows in hot, humid climates where temperatures do not drop below 12 degrees Celsius1,2.

This vine grows naturally in the southeastern states of United States from Maryland to Florida

Its main characteristics are its resistance to the hot and humid climate and its limited need of cooling period so that the grapes can budge

Muscadine grapes can be eaten fresh or used in the production of juices, jellies or wine. There are several varieties of muscadine, the best known being the Thomas and the scuppernong

The scuppernong muscadine was the first grape to be used for wine making in US history, more than 400 years ago on Roanoke Island, North Carolina. . .
