Catawba Grape
It Is a North American hybrid red variety that was the most planted variety in the United States until the 1860. The exact origins of the grapes are uncertain, but it seems likely that it was discovered in North Carolina (where finds the river Catawba) in the early nineteenth century. The genetic structure of the hybrid is unclear; Vitis labrusca is accepted as a single parent, but several other native grape varieties are potentially involved.
